Set of six FDCs come in a clear, archival quality protective sleeve, and includes a full-colour ‘Return of the King’ brochure containing background information on both this Nov. 5, 2003 stamp release and the epic year-long production it honours, making it a wonderful introduction to the world of stamps and movie memorabilia collecting.
NEW ZEALAND POST'S 5th November 2003 ‘The Return of the King’ philatelic issue is one of only three stamp releases officially licensed by New Line Cinema and approved by the film’s director, Peter Jackson, and was released with their total cooperation and blessing. Designed by Frans Lenzen based on the wonderful photos of Pierre Vinet these limited edition Miniature Sheet First Day Covers represent a wonderful opportunity to commemorate this huge cinematic undertaking. Two earlier, now OOP sets were released to commemorate ‘The Lord of the Rings’ movie trilogy: ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ set was issued in December 2001, and a second ‘The Two Towers’ set was issued in December 2002. 40 cent: Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies), 80 cent: Frodo Baggins (Elijah Woods) enters the spider’s den, 90 cent: Hobbits Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd) must remain strong at heart, $1.30: Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) mighty warrior King Elessar and last of his royal lineage, $1.50: Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellen) the White - warrior wizard, $2.00: Gollum (Andy Serkis) on the trail of “my precious”.

Miniature Sheets: These are stamps displayed in an attached illustrated panel. The Miniature Sheets portray the origin of each stamp image, which are derived from key scenes and moments in ‘The Lord of The Rings: Return of the King’ motion picture.
First Day Covers: Pictorial envelopes which are issued and stamped with a specifically-designed cancellation postmark that is only used for that day and issue. The cancellation stamp for this First Day Cover is a stylized Crown encircled by the words ‘The Return of the King, First Day of Issue, 5 November 2003, Stamps Centre Wanganui New Zealand’.
