NEW ZEALAND POST'S 4th December 2001 ‘The Fellowship of The Ring’ philatelic issue is the only stamp release officially licensed by New Line Cinema and approved by the film’s director, Peter Jackson, and was released with their total cooperation and blessing. Designed by Sacha Lees at Weta Workshop - the same team nominated for three Academy Awards and winner of two prestigious BAFTA Awards - now out of print (OOP), these limited edition Fellowship of the Ring Miniature Sheet First Day Covers represent a wonderful opportunity to commemorate this huge cinematic undertaking.
WE WILL ALSO be offering occasional ‘The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring’ Maximum Postcards, Stamp Booklet and Presentation Packs - either purchase direct or check our regular auctions. As these Fellowship of the Ring stamps were only on sale in New Zealand and sold out much faster than anticipated, supply is strictly limited to that in stock. A second OOP ‘The Two Towers’ set was issued in December 2002 and a third ‘The Return of the King’ set was released in November 2003 to commemorate ‘The Lord of the Rings’ movie trilogy.

Miniature Sheets: These are stamps displayed in an attached illustrated panel. The Miniature Sheets portray the origin of each stamp image, which are derived from key scenes and moments in ‘The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring’ motion picture.
First Day Covers: These are pictorial envelopes which are issued and stamped with a specifically-designed cancellation postmark that is only used for that day and issue. The cancellation for these Fellowship of the Ring First Day Covers is a stylized Eye of Sauron encircled by the words ‘The Fellowship of The Ring, First Day of Issue, 4 December 2001, Stamps Centre Wanganui New Zealand’. First Day Covers are very collectable since they are rare and hard to obtain after issuance. This issue was only released in New Zealand and sold out quickly. Approximately 16,000 Fellowship First Day Covers were issued by NZ Post.
